Do You Write for $$$

Well I do. I write because it is a way to communicate. I write because God has given me a passion and talent for it. But I also write to earn some extra money.

For some writing is their business. For me, business includes my writing. As an entrpreneur I have to find creative ways to earn a dollar or two when sales are slow or I just need that something extra for the month.

I do this through some freelance work and also as a publisher for Associated Content.

At first I was skeptical that AC actually pays, but I am glad to report that they do. Depending on how you publish your writing to AC you can make anywhere from $3 up. I made $17 in one week posting old articles that have not been used in a while. You can even create how to books, videos and so much more.

Everynow and then I will post a great resource and leave a link on the post and on the sidebar of this blog.

I highly recommend Associated Content!

Every now and then life throws you a curve ball. You have a choice to hit a home run or foul out. Hitting the home run is not always an east feat.

The ball may come too fast you don't see it or it may come so slow that when you hit it is an automatic out. Then there comes the moment when you hit the ball and you start running to homeplate.

Before you reach that pinnacle of joy, you must first get past the hurdles. First base is where you find out if you have what it takes to really get around the bend. Second base is your challenge of waiting for the end to come near. The third base is where you see the way to go and home...well home is the place of sheer joy.

Change is seldom easy and very challenging. The challenge lies in how you handle the change that is thrown your way. How do you take the moments handed to you during the change? How do you deal with the dust that flies in your face? How do you focus as the challenge comes your way?

God never intended for life to stop when the ball comes our way. It is His not intention to allow a challenge in our lives so that we cower in corner and give up. We don't serve a God that gives up, so why would He want His children to give up.

God's desire is for you to embrace the change. Take it, work through it, work with it, and live your best life in spite of and because of.

Sister...EMBRACE YOUR CHANGE!

In Other Words Tuesday: Promised Land

"God has delivered us, He has parted waters for us, He has made water gush forth from rocks and sent us our own manna from heaven. He has brought us into our own Promised Land. Will I miss the opportunity to tell the story to our children?"

When I read the quote this week, a poem I wrote back in 2001 instantly came to mind. So here is my take on this week's IWO. This it the story I share with my children each and everyday. It tells about the witness of my life and how god God is at all times.

It has come to this point.
He has called me to move on;
leave my Jordan;
go after my blessed inheritance:
Receive my Promised Land.

There is a cost that I must pay,
a consecrated life;
a more sanctified way.
What I lose on this path is nothing
compared to what will be gained
as I give up those worldly ways.

I may cry a tear or two:
Oh, but what a joy to see my wilderness journey
left over there next to the Jordan.

Some may not understand the calling:
The purpose of my Promised Land.
That’s okay:
My victory is in His hands.
All I have to do is believe,
and cross over the impossible;
knowing that it is God who leads the way.

As I give God wants His:
All the glory!
All the honor!
All the praise!
His people will be edified;
and His Mighty Name glorified,
as I let Him lead me through
beyond the Jordan.

I Forgot Fun Friday....Oh Poo!

I love putting up the quizzes on Fridays so that my visitors can just sit back and have a little fun. I realized today that I forgottp put the quiz up this past week.

So now I feel like something is missing, but I will make it up this Friday. Afterall it is Black Friday - a term I loathe - and many of you will be out shopping. When you come home you will need a breather, so be sure to stop by.

I think I just may add a little more for Fun Friday!

Praise Series: What I am Thankful For

I was asked on a site that I belong to what I was thankful for. I wanted to share my thought here on my blog.

I am thankful for God's grace and mercy in my life. So underserved and yet He still follows me with those awesome Twins everyday.

I am thankful for my husband who challenges me to grow beyond and reach for everything that God has for me so that others are blessed!

I am thankful for my chidren because they are good kids with a true love for God and mommie.

I am thankful for the doors that have opened as I pull my new business together.

I am just thankful to be alive!

So many people wait for this time of the year to be so thankful for all they have. I love Thanksgiving and all it entails. I love the time with family, cooking satisfying and sometimes very fattening meals, watching my fmaily enjoy the day, playing chess with my oldest son, and just being with folks I love.

The funny thing about my home is that this is something we do on a daily basis and it doed not take one day out of the year for us to just say thanks.

This is a spirit that should be in us all year around.

Just say Thanks! He is so worthy of it!

I Decided on a New Business

Well I have decided on a new business focus. It did not take long to decide either. I knew that what I was not doing was not profitable neither was it what I was supposed to be doing. I did it because there were people asking me to do it.

Well this time I took a different approach to it. I prayed, talked to business coaches, listened, allowed my husband to have a say, prayed with him, and waited for the Holy Spirit to move me.

So this time it is different and I am so excited about that.

My new business focus is in a field I am passionate and very knowledgeable about. I am working on a new business that I am calling "Vegan Family Living". This business will target families who are vegan or are looking to go vegan. It will also have great tips for the health conscious family.

I am so geeked about this new journey. I will have not only the website, but a podcast, and blog as well. A Membership site will follow.

It is my goal for the business to turn a profit in the next year. One way that I am working on this is by being a member or Mom Masterminds. MM is a community of serious business minded mothers looking to create a focused business for themselves. It offers great resources, tools, and support. The women are honest, creative, ingenious, and downright intelligent.

I am in love with being a Mom Mastermind Member.

They do offer a free 7 Day Trial, but I promise you will want to stay once you join. The monthly membership fee is well worth it when you think about the fact that after a year, you get a lifetime membership and will not have to pay another dime for the life of your membership.

You can find out more about Mom Mastermind by visiting the Mom Masterminds Main Page. For member success stories go to the Mom Mastermind's Success Stories.

My prayer is that every woman finds her place in God's Kingdom Building Process know matter what it is.

Praise Series: I Closed My Business

Your eyes are not deceiving you. I closed my business yesterday and it was one of the most liberating experiences of my life. As I shut down each page on my site I was led to leave the home page up and write the following message.

Thank you for stopping by my site. At this time I am following the Word and seeking God for direction in my life. I enjoyed serving women as they strived to build profitable businesses in Christ, however, I was not productive in my own ventures. The focus, or lack there of business is not what God had for me. So let me leave you with one last message of hope:

Obedience is better than sacrfice. If you find yourself in a business rut and you can't seem to get out of it, take a moment to hear what God is saying to you. Don't keep moving ahead in a stagnated position because the you are truly not moving ahead. Obey and heed God in your every endeavor.

Let me end this post by saying take the message above and pray about the message it has for your own life. We all have areas where we are not in absolute obedience to God, but guess what we can bring those under subjection to Christ. We are able to come into ourselves when we fall in line with God's will for our lives.

Be Blessed!

Praise Series : Taking Some Time for Me

Well, I just have to give God the Praise. On Sunday I was on the internet and it suddenly went out. That meant that the phone and cable were out as well. Not good for a person who works online.

I thought that maybe I had missed a payment and waited anxiously for Monday so that I could call my provider.

I was distraught and upset at first because I am just really getting myself refocused on business and it has not been an easy road because I had so much streamlining to do. I was just getting into the real groove of it all.

Well before I made the call, I received a peace that I needed to take those days and focus on some things I had been neglecting, like myself. So instead of being upset, I just gave God the praise and went on about my week. I took the time to do my hair, take my kids to the library, cook some collard greens, and plan for homeschool through the end of the year. I also started back on the names of God study I have been doing with my 14 year old.

It was a blessed 4 days.

I had also found out that it was some sort of tech issue that they could not get to until Friday. My first thought was to call everyday and see if anyone could come, but the peace just stayed with me.

My husband know how to do this sort of work as an Electrical contractor, but he gets home so late he forgets. Well tonight he didn't and he found out that someone had been stealing our cable power. Now you know a sista was hot, but I just calmly called my provider to make them aware of the fact that the box had no lock and that someone was stealing our cable.

I am just grateful it was not too bad of an issue and my husband made sure to take care of the cable from the thief with a hammer, so they can't steal anyone's else's cable.

God is good, because I saw so much that needed to be done it my walk. I gotta go take care of LaTara for a while and let God love me like He wants to.

Praise God through it all and look for the blessings and miracles even in the midst of the mess.

Praise Series: A Healthy Praise

He is true to His word of trying Him and testing Him to see if He will not pour you out a blessing you will not have room for.

God is good in spite of it all, God is good. My health is on track, I am losing weight in a fast yet safe way, and I am learning so much about the junk we put in our bodies on a daily basis. I have been on a regimen of core and strength training with some cardio in there as well. I have also been taking a combination of two African herbs that we well in our natural health business. That combination is Borututu and Gota Kola Teas and it helps to eliminate all the unnecessary waste from your body which usually results in a noticeable weight loss when you are a big girl like me.

I asked God to take away the taste of any ungodly foods and drinks from me and I tell you He will do it. Now when I even try drink a soda it taste like I am pouring straight sugar down my throat. I stopped drinking sodas almost a year ago, but every now and then I would get a caffeine free one to satisfy my desire for the bubbles. I have found a great sparkling water called LaCroix that comes in many flavors and I keep two 12 packs in my home when our budget allows. It satisfies my need for the fizz.

I have anxiety disorder so it was very important for me to stop drinking and eating foods with caffeine. I am a chocolate expert and love it in all kind of ways. So when I found out I had to cleanse my system of it, I was devastated. My heart lose a love notch because it was so sad. I had to really pray for my chocolate craving to be released from me. It took a while and some detoxing, but praise God I am able to look at and smell chocolate without salivating at the mouth.

I prayed for more energy to get up and exercise and He led me to a combination of honey and cider vinegar and it is energizing. I am also eating a lot more fresh veggies with all the new basically fat free dressings I have been creating. Peppermint Tea is also good for energy as is the essential oil. One sniff of the peppermint and your energy and memory are refreshed.

I actually want to get up and exercise now and that has not happened to me in some years. I even exercise at my desk. This morning I stretched while my computer got started and while I waited for my tea to get ready. I try to get up to work out with Denise Austin, but I just can't seem to get it all together by the time she comes on. That is when I utilize my knowledge of exercise that I learned back in the 90s when I was an exercise junkie. Now that is a habit worth keeping!

My goal weight is 165lbs and I know that God will get me there because...Well...He's just good like that. I will keep you updated on my progress.

You Are The Godfather Ice Cream

Someone crosses you, and they'll end up with a scoop of this in their bed

What Your Face Says

At first glance, people see you as driven and ambitious.

Overall, your true self is passionate and physical.

With friends, you seem logical, detached, and a bit manipulative.

In love, you seem mysterious and interesting.

In stressful situation, you seem like you're oblivious to the stress.
**********************************************

You Are Cookie Monster

Misunderstood as a primal monster, you're a true hedonist with a huge sweet tooth.

You are usually feeling: Hungry. Cookies are preferred, but you'll eat anything if cookies aren't around.

You are famous for: Your slightly crazy eyes and usual way of speaking

How you life your life: In the moment. "Me want COOKIE!"

"Has someone seen the life I planned? It seems it's been misplacedI've looked in every cornerIt's lost without a trace..." ~ Beth Moore~From the poem: "The Life I Planned "
Funny quote! I say this because just the other day I was talking with my 14 year old as he watched me do a puzzle on Shockwave and I made a statement that this is not the life I intended to live at all.
I had to laugh at the thought of when I was in high school and we talked about where we wanted to be in 10 years. It is 20 years later and well I do not have my home, my 2 dogs, or my 5 kids. Now I did get my rugged husband, but we never travel all over the world nor did I become a lawyer. As a matter of fact I changed my major from journalism to psychology to liberal arts to..oh I forget!
I may have misplaced my plan but at this point in the juncture I would dare trade the journey.
I grew and grew from all the bumps and turns. All the dark corners had many a surprise and sometimes if I was not careful, I got bit right in the behind. The thorns in the rose bush bruised my something awful, but oh the beauty and the aroma of those sticky beauties. I have had some wrestling matches with the Angel, and I am elated at the blessings for hanging on in there.
Today I may not be the lawyer, the journalist, the psychologist, or the teacher I thought I would be; but you know when you think about I did not need a degree to become all those things. I got my learning from the school of hard knock and the University of Grace and Mercy.
I am the lawyer in the courtroom of life when I stand before God and plead case after case for myself and others that I pray for day after day.
I am the journalist when I write about His goodness in my life and spread the Word about Who He and what He can do for others.
I am the psychologist when I listen to a woman who feels as though her life is going nowhere fast and I have to help her to see through God's Word that she has a destiny and a reason to be.
I am the teacher when I share with my children and try to be the example of a virtuous Women filled with love and covered by grace and mercy.
So in essence my plan is a part of who I am. I did not know that all those things I wanted to be were skills and talents given to me. I did not know that the Holy Spirit would endow me with gifts that would be a part of what instilled in my heart to be.
Well it is 20 years later, and I am not the financially rich individual I thought would be, but Praise God I am the spiritually rich woman God designed me to be.

Article Thursday: Living Sacrifices

Living Sacrifices

Have you yielded your all as a sacrifice to God? Is your body ready to presented as holy before God? Where do you fall short in the true sacrifice of your life?

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God."

Romans 12:1-2

We are to be living sacrifices for God. That means just what it says. In our soul and spirit, we must be willing to yield to God and His perfect will. We can’t say that Jesus is Lord over our lives if we are not living as true sacrifices in His service.

When we don’t allow ourselves to be full sacrifices to God’s service, then the control for much of what goes on in our lives is in our hands. We may think God has control, but if we have not yielded our lives to be conformed to His way and not that of the world’s, then we have not yielded full control.

Eventually, we all bow and confess before Him the truth of His Lordship. Why not yield it all over to him now? His will is not to force us into true service; however, His will shall also come to pass. We have a choice now.

For many of us, it is time to stop giving handicapped sacrifices. It is time to yield over a healthy, whole, and willing sacrifice to Him. Your life may not be perfect. You may have along way to go. That’s ok. Give Him all that you are now and the rest will come.

As we sacrifice and allow God to do His perfect work in us, our minds begin to be renewed. The worldliness within us begins to fade and our minds focus more on God and his will for our lives. We want to be more obedient to His way and His will. We want to do what is righteous and just in the eyes of God.

If we open our hearts to His will, we can find the true blessings and fulfillment we need in life. Only when we take a stand to be all that He has called for us to be, can we live the abundant life Jesus promised. To do less than to sacrifice, would be to tell God He can't do what He has promised and proved so many times.

It is only when these things take place that we can begin to prove what is that good, acceptable, and perfect will of God.

The following prayer is one that I say many times, as my journey is yet to be completed, and I have so much that I need to yield. I invite you to say this prayer if, like me, to yield it all over is daily need.

Lord,

I pray that You open my eyes to where I may be falling short in being a living sacrifice for You. I open my heart to the Holy Spirit, so that He can search me and show me where I need to be cleansed and purified. In this world today, there are so many pleasures that are easy to fall prey to. Father, I pray that You place blinders where evil tempts me with those pleasures. The only pleasure I should desire, are those that are pleasing in Your sight.

May I become a living sacrifice for You, dear Lord, so that what You have for me, shall be.

In Your service is where I desire to be.

This is my prayer to You on this day.

In the Name of My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,

Amen

Praise Series: The Most Effective Praise

The Most Effective Praise

Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fullness thereof.

Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees rejoice

Psalms 96: 11-12

Let the sea roar, and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.

Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together

Psalms 98:7-8

There an effective way to praise. One would miss it because it does not exactly deal with man. However, God's Word is not a mistake and what was discovered I thought to be very profound.

The scriptures talk about the praise of not man, but creation. You know the trees, flowers, animals, wind, mountains, and things we do not fathom having the ability to praise. I began to think about how it is that creation praises God. I discovered that the praise of creation is far greater that that of man, because we tend not to think of praise in this way.

What is this great discovery?

Well, to tell you the truth, it is not exactly as great or profound as say, Moses parting the Red Sea or Jonah living in the belly of the whale.

It does not have to do with anyone turning flips or speaking in tongues. It is not even about waving our hands or doing a dance.

As a matter of fact, it is really rather simple.

Creation praises God by doing exactly what it is supposed to do. It performs its God ordained duty. For example think of a tree as the wind blows. It doesn't fight it or try to beat it. That tree simply dances with the wind and goes with the flow. It is obedient to the call of God. What about the rain? At the appropriate time according to God’s will it falls to nourish the earth. What about the ant? He gathers food all spring and summer in preparation for the long winter months. Creation does not do this because they “want to”. No! They do it because it is what they were created to do.

Now, hold on. Are we not God’s creation? The last I checked His word said that I was “fearfully and wonderfully made”; which means I was created. Guess what? So are you.

So we have an obligation, as does all creation to give God a most effective praise. We must work at making ourselves available to the work God has for us to do: Both collectively and individually.

What a world it would be if we were each in our place of service. If each one of us would determine to do God’s will for lives and not be worried about what we want out of it. We could turn this world inside out and glorify God in away that would bring millions, if not billions, to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

So from this I have come to the conclusion that the best praise, one that honors God the most, is one that does as it is ordained. If you want your life to reflect a truly effective praise...do as you are ordained. Go forth and live in your destiny. Strive each day to accomplish something towards you calling in Christ Jesus.

Be obedient and know that this praise that is above the dance, above the shout, above the tear and the instrument, is the most effective praise.

To God be the Glory for all that He has, is, and will do in our lives.

Thursday's Article....a Little Late

When I die I want to be remembered for my virtuous character. I realize though, that I have a great deal of work to do. I was blessed however, to have a woman in my life whose character went beyond and left legacy of light. Read our story below and be blessed!

Legacy of Light

Teach older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us(Titus 2:2-8).

As Christians, we all need a person who will help to keep us grounded and rooted in the Word. We all need a Naomi, Barnabus, or a Paul, or a Titus 2 woman. Nancy Estrada entered my life in 1992 and became a part of my journey.

I was 23 and a new mother with no idea about life. We started talking because of Vacation Bible School. I was a teacher and she was the Teacher’s Coordinator. Our relationship grew from there.

It was a rocky road at first. I did not like to hear what she had to say. I was hard- headed, independent, and out to the world and everything that got in the way of my terror. I was also very low on what I call “Christ-esteem” and I had no true knowledge of His ultimate love for me.

Nancy saw through it all. Her light shined on me and she never gave up trying to get me to see what God wanted me to see. She was determined and I had no idea why.

I would hang up on her when she said things I did not like. I could not stand the fact that she could see beyond my tough demeanor and the wall I had built around me. Yet a part of me loved her in ways I did not even understand.

That was the working of God. He knew I needed her light in my life.

I sat at her feet, most of the time kicking and screaming, and she just loved me without condition. She allowed herself to be open about her own life; showing me that my reality was not what I made it to be. Through Nancy I began to see that my reality rested in Christ and that His love for me would carry me over, under, and through all my storms.

Her willingness to love me with all of my rough edges made the reward even more valuable when I began to blossom from the love I had received. I

Nancy was a true legacy of light and I am so grateful to God to have known her and to be able to call her my Spiritual Mother. Her prayers were sincere and the connection we had was deep. She was honest and transparent with her life. To be real was the banner she wore.

Even when she had cancer that was inoperable and was told that she only had a few months to live, she never stopped the work for which God created her. She lived 3 years longer than the doctors gave her. God was not ready for her yet.

Nancy went on with the work at hand.

She planned her own funeral, wrote her own obituary, and made sure that her children, grandchildren, and her “girls” as she called a select few of us, were all going to be alright. She told me that God had a plan for her and He was still not ready for her yet.

She did all she could until the cancer and all the treatments took its toll. That she knew it was time to rest. She understood that God was getting everything ready for her homecoming. Yet even in her weakness she still made time for us.

I can remember, when I was going through a very trying period and God was just about ready for her, I would not call her, because I did not want to bother her with my issues. The phone rang on evening and I heard this tiny, weak voice say, "You're being attacked, aren't you? I know because I too am being attacked." From there we shared how the devil was trying to tear us down. That's true love.

What a blessing it was for me to know that we were so connected, that she felt my anguish and shared in my triumph; even through her illness.

My last moment with Nancy was at her home with a few of her closet family members and friends. Along with my Pastor and his wife, we all shared in the Lord's Supper. What a poignant moment for a dynamic life.

Sadly yet joyfully Nancy died on December 2, 2002, leaving behind a legacy of light that reached to infinity and beyond.

**********

Nancy’s life was one that exemplified the Titus 2 woman. There are many girls and women out there who need this sort of mentoring. It is important that we as women help one another to be all that God has called us to be.

If you are unsure about mentoring or don’ t quite understand what it entails, I encourage you to read Titus 2. There are also some great links for sites and articles on the subject on the subject of mentoring. I pray that you educate yourself on the subject and begin to spread your legacy of light.

May you be forever blessed.

Praise Series

I got this idea in my head yesterday to start a praise series here on the blog. This is going to be good for me because I am trying to truly find my way back to total praise. I lost it after a very deep depression took me to mind set that made me angry, bitter, and always feeling like the victim.

God has sent delivered and set me free, but there are areas that LaTara needs to lay hold to once again. Total praise is one of those ways.

Let me tell you God is so good.

This weekend we finally found a church home. When I first came to Chicago, I knew I was going to have to adjust to going to church on Saturday and prayed God's favor over it and sat back to watch the action.

It was a hard adjustment and I had to really understand where my husband was coming from. Well, I got it by researching, looking at some historical facts, and listening to God.

After visiting many churches with too many cliques, and cliques within cliques, legalistic and church law issues, I was just ready to give up. A lot of what my husband did on Sabbath, he did out of his love for God but I was dishearten by the attitudes and reactions of some if not the majority of the members, that I would often times stay home. I felt like I was letting my husband down and that I was causing him to miss a blessing due to my lack of cooperation.

We would get involved with a church and then they would snatch the rug right out from under us. It was so ugly at times that I could sense evil in the middle of a service. It was a mess and I was just ready to give up and continue on at home as I had been doing for time now. Just God, me, and my family.

Well yesterday he took me to a church about 2 hours away and I could feel God's presence from the parking lot to the pews. Afterward we went to the Elder's house and there was yet another sweet spirit. I was in tears, privately thanking God as I watched my all of family be relaxed for the first time in four years and I was even able to close my eyes for a brief catnap. I wasn't worried about anything that someone was doing or saying around me.

That night after we sang and prayed I thanked the Elder and told him that for the first time in four years I enjoyed myself and felt the Spirit of God with me all day. That was important for me because my former church home back home in Los Angles is all about being real and making others feel welcomed. My former pastor was not about Church doctrine, laws, and all that other man directed stuff, He was all about God, His Word, salvation, and the move of the Holy Spirit.

With all that said, we are joining the church next week.

PRAISE GOD from WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW!

Never give up believing that He will because I am a witness. HE WILL!

Oh, But for the Love of a Man

"A husband is a guy who tells you when youĂ‚’ve got on too much lipstick and helps you with your girdle when your hips stick.." ~ Ogden Nash ~

Before you were married, what secrets did you have from your husband? Did he see for the first time without makeup on your wedding night? Did her find out that you burp when soda bubbles hit the roof of your mouth?

Even if you are not married, but you are dating, or even single, what do you do to yourself to make others think you are perfect?

My husband sees me at me worse and my best. I am not the type of woman that dresses up for him before he gets home or rushes to clean my home. Now I am not nasty or dirty, and I love my husband, as a matter of fact he is one of the reasons why I don't do the whole beauty thing like a lot of other women do before hubby gets home.

My husband gets it that sometimes my day does not allow for a thorough clean up, but rather a sweep and a toy pick up. He gets it that most times when he comes home I may be in sweats and a t-shirt.

When I had my youngest child, my hair started doing its own thing. It was a wild animal with no desire to be tamed. So I decided to braid it up. I had never done this before because from the time I was a child to the time I left California, I always had other people to braid me hair. This time no one was there and I was on my own. So I grabbed my synthetic hair to add to my natural hair and proceeded to learn.

Of course the baby would not give me a chance to get the job done since he was a breastfed baby. Add on top of that the fact the I was trying to add a bag of hair into my own untamed mess. It was all I could not to call 911. Well my husband heard my frustration through all my tears. The next thing I hear is "Honey can you come here please?"

So I go to the back of the house where he is on the computer. He calls me over to the screen and show me a site for those women who choose to wear their in the texture that God gave them. He informed me that he loved women like that who can leave all the chemicals be and just wear their hair naturally.

I started on my new hair journey in February of 2004 and I have not looked back. I love theversatilee styles I can wear. Sometimes I look like Jill Scott, others I may look likePocahontass, and then there are other times when I have a curly look or I may just wear a bun for the day.

As an African American woman I had been discouraged for years from wearing the natural style. I don't knock those who do, I just day don't kick me in the rear just because I have wrapped my love around my "Naps".

God is good in the way He designed me and thanks to my husband, I have truly learned to embrace it.

So I will present it here and we shall see what happens.

Virtuous by Design

Webster’s Definition of Virtuous: as conforming to moral and ethical principles; morally excellent; upright.

Why not face it; the woman in Proverbs 31 comes off as the most perfect woman.

What a slap in the face it would be, if the passage were titled “A Most Perfect Woman.” It’s hard enough dealing with the word Virtuous and all that it entails.

However difficult it may be for any woman of God to read the passage in Proverbs and try to live accordingly, God in His infinite wisdom, created each of us Virtuous by Design.

As women we sometimes have the most difficult time understanding our worth to God. If we read Proverbs 31(10-31) without praying for an open heart and wisdom to understand, we will never see the value we have in Christ. Before we take the time to read this passage again, it may be important to go beyond it and find out how virtuous we are meant to be.

From the time God created the world, we were created to be virtuous. Genesis 1:26-27 states that we were made in the image of God. Our Father is the essence of virtue. He is virtuous and He designed us to be like Him. Once we accept Christ as Lord and Savior, the power of virtue becomes ours. We just have to take hold of that power.

For you formed by inward parts; you covered me in my mother’s womb.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Marvelous are your works,

And that my soul knows very well.

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in secret,

And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.

And in Your book they all were written

The days fashioned for me

When as they there were none of them.

Psalms 139:13-16

In a secret place, by skillful Hands, and with knowledge of who each of us would be, our virtuous forms were made. Before there was a thought of you or me on our mothers’ minds, we had a Father who designed us fearfully and wonderfully. He knew better than anyone else of our worth and understood the purpose for our virtuous design.

There was a method to God’s wonderful madness when He created us to be who we are. Read 2 Peter 1:5-8:

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue.

to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control

perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness,

to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you

you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord

Jesus Christ. (NKJ)

To be virtuous is a character trait we develop as we grow in Christ. It starts with faith, which is simply to believe and accept. Once this occurs, our desire to be conformed and more like Christ increases. Something in us wants to become biblically moral and this is where virtue steps in. From this virtue all of the other character traits become a part of us as well, allowing our branch to produce more and more good fruit. Without virtue, we cannot develop and thus the design does not get the recognition it deserves.

Now, if we go back to Proverbs 31, we will see this woman in a new light. It’s not that she is perfect. Her branch has simply developed and is producing lasting fruit. Somehow she caught hold to the fact that she was fearfully and wonderfully made. It was this revelation that led her to become the Virtuous Woman in Proverbs who intimidates most of us.

We don’t have to be intimidated, though, because we too were designed with the same virtuous intentions.

It’s not that we all have to strive to be the best cook. We are not all called entrepreneurs. Some of us can’t sew a button to save our lives. We can’t all shop at Lord and Taylor’s; but most of us can afford Wal-Mart.

Perfection was not her goal and it should not be ours either.

Her goals were to give glory and honor to her Designer. The only way she could do this, was by walking in the path He laid out for her. This is why she did what she could. It was her calling to use the talents and gifts she was trusted with. It was why she was virtuously designed.

Her calling was not yours. Your purpose is not mine. My destiny is my own.

Each one of us was born for a specific purpose. We each have a destiny to fulfill. This is why none of us should be intimidated by the Virtuous Woman.

We are all Women of Virtue!

You were designed with Virtue in mind. You were designed with your own story. You branch awaits the fruit you will produce.

The Mouse Ran Out

Today my mouse just gave out on me and I had to continually turn the computer off and on. It has been giving me problems for some time and I kept telling my dear husband that something was just not right. Well today we found out what it was.

There was short in the mouse.

He was able to purchase another one and here I am back in stride again.

The mouse running out reminded me of my walk with God because sometimes I just give up or shot out too. I run from my responsibility in the kingdom and fizzle. I won't lie because God knows better anyway and that would be just one more sin I would need to repent of. So I will be honest and say that like that mouse I do run out.

God has a way of reeling me back in and when He does boy is it a haul. You see I am a kicker and a screamer at times and have been known to be quite stubborn. So when God reels me back in he has a time getting me there.

There are areas in my life where I do yield without a fight, but there are still areas where I fall short. So my goal lately is to pay attention when I run. I want to find out why I am running and how to turn that around. I journal to God and wait for Him to show me.

The picture I see is not always the prettiest, but I will not grow otherwise nor will I be the vessel He has called me to be.

So hopefully my running days will soon be over as I unpack my bags, find the cheese, and dig into what it is that God has for me. I am sure of my calling, but I am not so sure about the road I must take.

CWO: In "Other" Words - September 22, 2006

"It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else."
~ Erma Bombech ~

I have been visiting the Christian Women online site for some time now. This week I decided to add my two words to their popular "In Other Words" section. Ok, so what I need to do is give my spew on the quote of the week.

Dreams are given to us by God for the purpose for fulfilling destinies. It is difficult to share this with others because it may make you appear venerable or wacky to say the least.

God usually does not give us dreams that are easy to accomplish. Often times they are beyond our wildest dreams. That's because God's thoughts are not are thoughts and His ways are not our ways. So when we go to share the dreams with someone else we may appear as though we actually are not and others may think we have lost our mind.

For me it is difficult because it is hard for others to see me as the woman I am now. They are so busy focusing on the woman I used to be. However, I am not the same and I am now walking in those dreams. So I don't share, but with a select few, who have the mind-set that I now do and who understand the mysterious yet glorious ways of God.

If I were to encourage another to live the dream and yes to share it as well, I would have to quote Romans 8:1 as words to hold on to.

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."

It is what I use when others look at me and wonder why God would want to use me in such a mighty way. Funny thing, I could look at them the same way because He wants to use them as well. The only difference is that I have opened myself up to the move of God in my life and I see the reason for every dream He has given me. I may not understand it, but I know that it is for the glory of God and for His good pleasure.

So Just What is Creatively Communicating

Thank you for visiting my newest blog. I am a blog phanatic. I have had so many blogs it was ridiculous. This year however, has been a year of focus for me and so I am narrowing down my blog sphere to only a few.

Some of your may be wondering why I chose the title "She's Creatively Communicating" and some of you may not. Whether you want to know or not, I am still going to tell it.

I started this blog because I love to write and speak as directed by God and often times that is done in some of the most creative ways. I have been told that I have a raw, transparent and honest approach when I speak and you know what, I am ok with that.

I wanted a place where I can just take a moment and speak with my readers creatively and with the blessings of God. Now I am not a sugar coater but I promise to be nice and I invite you to conversate with me by emailing me or leaving me comments.

So there you have it and I will share more with as time goes on about my life. For now let's just communicate creatively.
